What is the difference between gluten free, vegan and paleo?
What is the difference between gluten free, vegan and paleo? We get asked this a lot.
Dairy free means the absence of all dairy products, including butter, ghee, yogurt, cream, milk and cheese.
Vegan means the absence of animal products. This includes dairy, meat, eggs and honey.
Gluten free means the absence of gluten, a protein found in wheat, spelt, rye, and barley. It would require replacing those flours with an alternative non gluten containing source. (We use nut based flours, mainly almonds).
Paleo, desserts are made with whole food ingredients including nuts, seeds, grain free flours, eggs and unrefined sugar. Many people also use butter or ghee.
Mayfield farms does not use any dairy or grains, so we are paleo, gluten and dairy free! We often have many vegan options, but we do use eggs and honey in many of our selections. If you’d like to order something vegan let us know and we can create a special order of almost anything!
